About the DJ:

Winona Bechtle is the Director of Partnerships at Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and a devoted BBMT fan since she first came to see a show at the age of 5. She grew up listening to radio driving around Los Angeles with her family – and is a proud alumna of KSPC 88.7FM in Claremont, and KCHUNG in Chinatown. She can’t believe she gets the opportunity to combine her two greatest loves (radio and puppets) in the same place!

HOUR TWO: Café Tropical w/DJ Gemelas

At Café Tropical, you’ll dance the night away as Caribbean breezes caress your face, and you’ll never want to leave. DJ Gemelas will whisk you off to mid-century nightclubs with irresistible sounds from Havana, Mexico City, San Juan, Trinidad, and beyond in this collection of vintage Caribbean and Latin American lounge, salsa, calypso, samba, bossa nova, and more.

Albums in this set were released between 1957 and 1963, transporting listeners to a unique moment in history to experience the wildly popular musical genres emanating from Latin America, particularly the Caribbean, at that time.

About the DJs:

DJ Gemelas (Alicia Maria Houtrouw and Vanessa Gonzalez) may not be real twins but they are both half Cuban, and often share one brain. Both Gemelas were captivated by the music and the art of the Theater, and they currently show their appreciation by contributing to costume and set design, live music events, and the Board of Directors.
