A mix series utilizing sonic exploration to acknowledge bodily systems as containers storing the ability to transform/transport + absorb/release nutritive input and stimuli.

Sara Madani, a queer first generation Iranian multi-instrumentalist producer with an expertise in violin, viola, bass and guitar, joins Callie to engage in a grounding and kind conversation about the intimacy that exists between agents of sound and the heart. How does an instrument provide an extended limb of oneself by offering alternative ways of connection, communication, and language when words aren’t able to address the dynamic of feeling, tenderness, and the complex emotions that arise throughout the process of music creation?

Sara discusses the ways in which her Iranian ancestry influences both the music she creates and the poetic flow that she brings to her sonic endeavors. Together Callie and Sara address how slow and patient music production can act as a form of revolt against the fast pace expected by the demands placed by Western Capitalism. Can instrumentation act as a way to embrace our own special pacing and affect the way that we allow ourselves to move through the world in a way that feels resonant? The interview also explores Sara’s experience in beginning to collaborate with other artists and how varying environments influence the way she approaches production and musicianship. Interwoven into the episode are string based musical selections chosen by Sara which are currently influencing and inspiring her work and creative process.
