“Tizita” is an Amharic word that translates to memory, longing or nostalgia, and is often compared to the blues or saudade. This show explores Tizita as heard around the world, a universal sentiment arguably at the core of what makes us human.
Dexter Story is an Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and music producer. He is also an Ethnomusicology Ph.D. candidate at University of California Los Angeles’ (UCLA’s) Herb Alpert School of Music. His research focuses on traditional music and nationalism in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Eritrea.
