This program will feature a live performance by Elizabeth Joan Kelly

Elizabeth Joan Kelly is a New Orleans-based classical and ambient/industrial electronic music composer. She uses found sounds and MIDI to create lush soundscapes influenced by Zola Jesus, Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, Fever Ray, and The Knife.

Born and raised in the swamps of Slidell, Louisiana, Kelly received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music composition from Loyola University New Orleans and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She is a prize-winning classical composer whose music has been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Vox Novus, members of So Percussion, and by students and young professionals across the United States and Europe.

Kelly’s recent focus has been on experimental instrumental electronic music that explores the relationships between technology, industrialization, and consumerism, and their effects on society and our natural world. Her new album is Music for the DMV, after Brian Eno’s Ambient 1: Music for Airports (but more angsty…because no one likes the Department of Motor Vehicles).
