Celsius Drop
06.10.21

On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum.
This time around, Frosty is joined by Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka aka Chip Tanaka, a Japanese composer, sound designer, engineer, and pioneer of chiptune music.
His soundtracks for classic video games such as Tetris, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Super Mario Land, and Dr. Mario are ingrained in the brains of anyone to have even casually mashed a Nintendo button during the 1980s and 90s. What many don’t know about however is Hip’s long-term love of dub and reggae music. On this special episode of Celsius Drop, Tanaka unpacks this side of his sound world by joining Frosty in conversation and sharing a mix of some of his favorite dub and reggae cuts. You’ll also hear two recent Chip Tanaka compositions that expand beyond his video game compositions.
