Underscore: Tangerine Dream

06.07.26

Underscore is a monthly exploration of movie soundtracks guided by Mary. Each episode highlights music and sounds from specific films, genres, or the broader filmography of a director.

Just as underscoring in film enhances emotions and narratives, Underscore delves into the profound impact that music has on shaping us personally and on the emotional landscape of cinema.

In honor of the recent completion of the Metro D Line extension, I finally got around to watching Miracle Mile!

To my delight, I discovered that the film was scored by the German electronic group Tangerine Dream, who also did one of my all-time favorite synth-driven soundtracks for William Friedkin’s Sorcerer. After watching Miracle Mile, I found myself diving deeper into Tangerine Dream’s film-score catalog, so this episode features a small selection of some of my favorite tracks from their soundtrack work.
