The night I wrote ‘Keep On Pushing These Walls’ I had come home from seeing Feist performing songs by Lhasa. I was inspired by a musical thread between two singers I loved dearly, with one honouring the other. I was thinking a lot about songs being inhabited by different singers and about artists making songs their own… For this mixtape, I thought I’d include covers by singers I loved, covering other artists, who either wrote the song or made it popular (in the case of pop artists Dalida & Rihanna. Nina Simone makes 2 appearances, but honestly there could be an entire mixtape dedicated to her brilliant interpretations!) The list is endless, but here are a few favourites:
