Raza, Accordions, and Rock highlights a small portion of the Frontera Collection by carefully curating a 2-hour show using the music that is archived and sourced from the collection. The music played on this show will focus on the intersection of the African American diaspora, American Pop Culture, and the Mexican American experience through a musical lens. We’ll examine how R&B, Soul, and Rock existed in musical history of songs recorded and sung in Spanish or English and or a combination of both. ¡Vámonos Recio!

In this first show we take a listen to Pop tunes recorded in Spanish as an entry point to Raza, Accordions, and Rock. This playlist represents the decades from the 1950s well into the 1970s and it reflects what was happening musically in pop culture in the United States. These Spanish language versions not only show great musical understanding for these works, but some will elevate the musical experience by adding some personal flair and touches that makes them almost unique musical works but keeping the identifiable melodies.
