Raza, Accordions, and Rock highlights a small portion of the Frontera Collection by carefully curating a 2-hour show using the music that is archived and sourced from the collection. The music played on this show will focus on the intersection of the African American diaspora, American Pop Culture, and the Mexican American experience through a musical lens. We’ll examine how R&B, Soul, and Rock existed in musical history of songs recorded and sung in Spanish or English and or a combination of both. ¡Vámonos Recio!

This month’s installment of “Raza, Accordions, and Rock” is a collaboration with the Arhoolie Foundation’s Frontera Collection ¡En Vivo! Get ready to embark on a thrilling journey through the captivating sounds of the Arhoolie Foundation Frontera Collection and experience a dynamic mix of Latin Soul tracks that have made an indelible mark on music history. We celebrate the fusion of diverse musical genres within the biculturality of music produced by many first and second generation Mexican and Mexican Americans. Drawing inspiration from our African American brothers and sisters’ soulful melodies of legendary songs, we added our own distinct flair, identity, and infectious rhythms that left no doubt that it ignited the dancefloor. This show pays homage to the remarkable cultural heritage and creative spirit of R&B, Soul, and Funk of La Raza while celebrating the enduring influence of music.
