Nueve welcomes guest Dyanne Cano of the Lost Record Store Archive to play 9 records and discuss Lost Record Stores 2.0 and their upcoming event on March 7, 2026 at the DTLA Central Library.
Lost Record Stores is a love letter to LA. Researcher and Editor Dyanne Cano, who grew up in LA and went to many record stores in the 1990s and 2000s, wanted to create an online community archive with fold-out maps because most of these shops closed before the internet existed, leaving behind few traces. Their stories have been overlooked, dismissed, or simply lost to time. But these lost record stores deserve better. They were local hubs where subcultures were born, diasporas connected, friendships were made, and entire generations discovered music. Dyanne is the founder of the archival project, Lost Record Stores. They are also the co-owner of R/D Record Cabinets. Under the alias DJ Dy, they DJ vinyl-only sets around Los Angeles. As a freelance photographer in the 2000s, they photographed Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power, Le Tigre, Yo La Tengo, Bratmobile, The Gossip, and local LA bands.
