Grupo Kual? is a cumbia band from Mexico City which mixes Colombian, Peruvian, Cuban, and Regional Mexican music styles. They are one of the most influential contemporary cumbia groups. Angel Pedraza—who is the bandleader, singer, composer, and accordion player—proudly continues the family tradition of innovating cumbia in Mexico. His father and uncles founded Super Grupo Colombia, who were the first group to play cumbia in the style of sonideros—soundsystems with DJs who pitched down cumbia. Angel founded Grupo Kual? twenty years ago in San Juan de Aragon in Mexico City’s barrios. Their hits include “Amor Regresa Ya,” “Soy Marraquero,” “Kumbia en la Playa,” “Rumba Cha Cha Cha,” and more.
