Gabriel Vidal aka gfunktrece was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley with family roots from El Salvador. Counterculture, community organizing and his parent’s refugee experience has shaped his identity and approach to music. As a DJ and record collector, Gabriel finds importance in preserving and uplifting music that is less often heard and believes that through creativity and context, music can be felt even more intentionally. Gabriel has range when it comes to music and collecting records, from funk to latin to electronic genres and holds a special interest in protest records and music from Central America. He is a co-founding member of a Salvadoran music archive project called Radio Pulgarcito and often DJs community events and bars throughout Los Angeles.
