K. Solar

K.Solar is a hip-hop artist brought to you courtesy of the sun, moon, and stars. When on the mic his raps pour out as a stream of consciousness ranging from the far-out universe to crucial relationships in his life. He relentlessly pursues his passion as a rapper, emcee, and beat maker offering unique hip-hop with an eclectic blend of his surroundings and influences of jazz, funk, and soul. Seeing his music as a universal compound–his sound, style, and presence are shaped by the historic community of Leimert Park, Los Angeles and the rich streets of Brooklyn, New York City.
He is unabashedly himself, embracing his penchant for the Afro-futuristic, weird, and otherworldly. “Always in orbit,” K.Solar has a profound willingness to evolve and experience change in his music career and personal journey. With a background in engineering, K.Solar has been a Studio Engineer at Genesoul Labs when it was located in Hollywood, CA. He uses his mixing and mastering skills to produce his body of work. His steady flows are smooth and down-to-earth, often telling a story through insightful lyrics which overlay mellow, dreamy, and subtle beats. As a beatmaker and rapper, K.Solar has collaborated with artists such as Ras G, Steve Lacy, Mylo Mu, TruSound, Villain Park, Joy Postell, ASAD ILL, Hugh Augustine, Ubiquitous Love Tribe, and many others. Along with production, performing is second nature to K. Solar.
He has built a reputation hosting and organizing events in the two cities he loves. While living in Los Angeles, K.Solar co-hosted the hip-hop show Bananas at local venue Kaos Network. The performances drew critical acclaim that it was voted “best hip-hop show” by LA Weekly. K.Solar took the show on the road with him to New York City. During his years there, K.Solar started Bananas NYC at Rough Trade NYC and performed at Rockwood Music Hall, Club Bonafide and various other venues.
