Bop It! is a monthly program that sonically navigates underground music, past and present. From early 90’s mix cd’s and tapes, to monthly Bandcamp Friday releases, Bop It! explores the importance of electronic music’s means of community building within the anti-public landscape that is the greater Los Angeles area.

Two days into a loose bender after what felt like ages inside clubs and outside kiosks on only a few hours of sleep, Big Leg, Sean, and I found ourselves in an intermediate state. Early into the night, we stumbled into the abysmal mainroom of Pawnshop. In reality, we mostly found ourselves in and out of the toilet and never actually stepped into the jam-packed mainroom. As we chased deep conversation, mediated through hugs and laughter, we finally touched on intimacy once we found ourselves on the dance floor at Downbar. For the three hours of Tsui seamlessly knocking through track after track, we had completely expelled the energy from almost all parts of our bodies. What was special wasn’t so much how our bodies moved but how the set shifted our moods. I think at one point I yelled, “Every track slaps!!” I’ll stand by that. Best set of the year.

Tsui is a DJ from Taipei, Taiwan who explores the sounds of Progressive house, Trance, Electro and Techno. Recently, Tsui has begun exploring some special sounds and percussive textures, seeking a jungle tribal atmosphere and a sense of progression bringing a unique element to the dancefloor.
