PELLYVISION
02.12.26

PELLYVISION is a monthly cohesion of sound and vision. Each episode features a musical performance and selections from a different artist, which Alex Pelly visually accompanies by synthesizing live audio reactive video using a modular synthesizer and other analog technology.
LFZ is the recording and performance project of Los Angeles based musician and composer Sean Smith. His work explores psychedelic and progressive electronic music through process, improvisation, and responsive systems shaped by sound, chance, and instrument behavior.
Rather than fixed compositions, LFZ’s music is built around evolving systems. Arbitrary or self imposed structures are used to define pathways for improvisation, allowing pieces to remain open, adaptive, and reactive in both studio and live settings. The result is music that can feel ambient at times, expansive or rhythmic at others, but is always rooted in motion and transformation rather than repetition.
Smith works primarily with analog and tactile electronic instruments, favoring hands-on interaction, signal flow, and physical listening, while also welcoming selective automation and technological assistance when it supports the execution of the work. Composition and performance are closely linked, with live decision making treated as a central compositional tool rather than a deviation from the work.
The latest release, Mossy Knights, is a collaboration with Spencer Owen, with Smith composing the source material and Owen reworking it into Mossy Knights (Spencer Owen Refocus). Smith regularly performs the Synth Soundbath at the Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Los Angeles and teaches music privately.
Alex Pelly is a Canadian video artist based in LA whose work incorporates multiple generations of video technology, both analog and digital.
