NEGRESS is a platform that uplifts black femme, women and gender nonconforming artists. Swim in the sounds and spirit of local and international open format djs, producers, and recording artists. The spectrum of genres featured includes r&b, house, club, techno, ballroom, vogue, baile funk, afrobeat, gcom, jungle, and UK garage. We value a DIY approach to music and lift up emerging talent without the clout.
Fluid Resonance names how music and sound act as archives for embodied memories. We talked about music as a portal into the fluidity of Black life, a way of archiving what Black life and the blackness of life feel like.
The resonance of certain sounds and songs bends our experience of time and space. Resonant frequencies excite our systems and create openings for: connection with loved ones and ancestors, clearing and acknowledgement of intergenerational conflict and trauma, new narratives and knowledge, and feeling and honoring the queerness and transitivity inherent to black social life.
