Punky Reggae Party

01.10.18

Punky Reggae Party broadcasts every 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month and features musical selections from the punk & post-punk period between 1977 – 1982 (although other era’s, sub-genres & pre-punk influences are often represented), as well as Jamaican music from the ska, rock steady & roots reggae era’s, respectively. Many of the British post-punk bands were influenced by reggae music & it’s recording techniques, and that experimental spark is the nucleus of the show.

Punky Reggae Party started when David Orlando (Boss Harmony) and Jason Mason of Dub Club, teamed up with Michael Stock And Ben White of Part Time Punks in 2006. Existing & developing at various venues in Downtown, Los Angeles, it ultimately found a home at La Cita Bar (now promoted & DJ’d solely by David & Michael). Many bands (both punk and reggae) have performed throughout the years, and a few have cited it (PRP) as their favorite place to play. The DJ’s are avid vinyl lovers, so new records are got & played every week. There ARE some staples, however, which include recordings by bands like, PIL, The Wailers, The Clash, Culture, The Specials, Black Uhuru, The Slits, The Skatalites, The Ramones, The Pop Group, and many, many others.
