One Reporter's Opinion

06.21.23

The monthly dublab program One Reporter’s Opinion—named after Chris Ziegler’s L.A. RECORD review column—is one part lesson in lost history and one part celebration of the new and the now in the city of Los Angeles, California, where everything happened at least once, and anything could happen tomorrow. From demos to dead stock to new releases and the never-released—all genres and generations of musicians from the greater L.A. area are welcome.

On this month’s episode:
I’m DJing the born free vintage motorcycle show and these are songs i thought were maybe a little too mellow for the live set. Think of it as the ‘easy’ side of Easy Rider: pre-Asylum Records country contemporary, oddball B-sides from Specialty Records’ hard rock 45s, a barely released Cyril Neville track from the “Gossip” era and a funky “Folsom Prison” cover that has yet to be comped probably due to insurmountable copyright complications.
