dublab presents the Sounds of Now

When electronic music pioneers Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius graced us with their presence we were as jolly as a self-oscillating Synthi VCS3. In the early 70’s their albums and performances as Cluster (and Kluster with Conrad Schnitzler) paved sonic highways, predating industrial or sprawling Eno-derived ambient pop musics with heady tone washes and motorik pulses from crude electronics and rhythm machines. Nearly 40 years later they tour select states, proving their synergistic improvisation skills haven’t left the clouds. So what does one say to such gentle mental giants when given the opportunity? Is referencing this music with a term like “Krautrock” disrespectful? Listen to fanboy Professor Cantaloupe get shy as conversation with Cluster weaves around their time-line in real-time and their cosmic drone squeals spin fine like lime wheels.
