Born and raised in Los Angeles, Dahlia began collecting vinyl in her early teens, inspired massively after discovering a nightly house and techno broadcast on a local public radio station, Metropolis on KCRW. Many intensive listening sessions led to self-taught mixing lessons, crash courses from a crew of scratch/battle DJs, and eventually a massive career shift in 2005 in order to hole up for a year with her new turntables, stacks of old house records and delve deep. Having rode the techno train from the warehouses of the LA underground to the transcendental streets of Detroit and many places in between, Dahlia continually showcases her acumen and natural skill behind the decks, setting dancefloors into motion at the best underground events across North America. Dahlia has spent the latter years holding down residencies at highly acclaimed NYC nightclubs and underground events such as Output, Sublimate and Secret Guests, as well as spending her days as the house and techno buyer at the famed Brooklyn vinyl shop, Halcyon Records, but ultimately couldn’t resist the pull of her LA roots, which inspired a recent return to her hometown. You can now find her delivering her signature sonic flavors at her monthly residency, a Berlin-inspired downtown Los Angeles techno underground called Perpetual Dawn. While admittedly “dabbling in some production”, she passionately chooses to explore the infinite nuances involved in what some might call a lost art, that of mixing records– pure and simple.
