While visiting his family in Belize in February ’21, Desmond had the opportunity to interview his friend and neighbor, Emery Gill. Better known “Gilla” back in Dangriga, he joined Desmond and his producer Allan “Baba” Castillo at the Wafmilia Studio located just a minutes walk from the beach. After a light rain one evening, they talked about Gilla’s band, The Wageirale Drummers; Baba’s experience recording Garifuna music in Belize over the years; and listened to some unreleased material straight from the studio. This episode features the diverse music found in Belize from traditional communal sounds to percussive driven Caribbean vibrations. Haul up!
