Titled “Juju Auntie,” this mix is a product of Auntie·ism, the sound art project of music and culture creative fixture, SHABAZZ aka DJ Auntie Spice. The intentionally-curated mixes celebrate the lyrical wisdom and sonic palettes of obscure soul, funk, jazz, electronic and world music that currently influence the nostalgic spirit within hip-hop, r&b and pop music today.

This mix is a collection of rare and previously unreleased experimental Afro-Beat and Afro-Funk tracks from all across the Africa continent. Woven together by harmonious basslines and rhythms, this dance-driven listen features mass Highlife cuts from various West African subgroups, as well as a dash of Congolese rumba and East African recordings.

SHABAZZ is a multi-hyphenate creative with over a decade worth of work experience in the entertainment industry specializing in marketing, communications, event production and artist/project management. She is currently working full time as a project manager at Saint Heron and she DJs on the side and make mixes via her passion project, Auntie·ism.
