In April 2021, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto has invited Swedish composer and sound artist Ellen Arkbro (Stockholm, 1990) for two concerts which have included works from her two first albums and the premiere of a new composition for solo pipe organ.

On the first concert, held at Serralves Museum’s auditorium, Arkbro played ‘CHORDS for Guitar’ in which she explores the tonal capacities of the instrument combining it with a precise, subtle synthesis, carefully examining the sonic materiality and harmonic quality of chords.

The second concert was held at the Church of Cedofeita in Porto and included the piece ‘three’ played by a local brass trio, and ‘Chordalities’ for pipe organ, played by Arkbro, both reflecting her meticulous approach to processes, the use of unusual or forgotten tunning systems and the attention to sound qualities, resulting in the striking impression of continuous shapeshifting sound forms sustained throughout her pieces.
