Live dublab Mix

10.13.00

The day after his excellent October 12th set at the El Rey Theatre in 2000, Germany’s Burnt Friedman joined Frosty in the dublab studio along with some of his ~scape cohorts for a 40-minute trip through his wildly wide-ranging tastes.

The set begins with “Dear Ron” by Black Sifichi & Negative Stencil, a spoken letter that meditates on the nature of the underground, before jumping into Devon Russell and Manasseh’s dub-reggae cover of the Curtis Mayfield classic, “Underground.” The rest of the mix features eccentric electronic pop gems of the ’60s by artists like Tom Dissevelt & Kid Baltan, Richard Hayman & Walter Sear, Perrey & Kingsley, Dick Hyman and others, juxtaposed with Friedman’s own work. Finally, Dubphonic’s “War No More” closes things out.

Pop over to Friedman’s own label Nonplace for more.

FROM THE VAULTS is an ongoing curation project produced by Ben Sinclair, resurfacing rare live performances and DJ sets recorded during dublab’s first ten years.
