Mexican Psych & Beats Mix

In the summer of ’06, Chico Sonido came through the dublab studio for a crucial live mix of rare psych cuts, jazzy funk beats, and instrumental hip-hop. He says the mix is about “Mexican psychedelics, finding records under pyramids, traveling, and you know — finding a funk record you’ve been looking for all your life.”
The mix offers a consistent buzz, retro beauty and a few surprises. Mere minutes in, poet Saul Williams blesses the mix with a random, off-the-top freestyle over some crusty old psych grooves. As it set moves along, Chico drops more and more of his own beats into the technicolor scene, and ends on a medley of selections from his excellent self-titled album.
