Soft Rock Summer Mix

07.16.03

Bring along your imagination for a summery, spacey psych-pop trip guided by one of our all-time favorite DJs. The harmonies are thick, the backbeats are crisp, the sweet smell of sunshine wafts against all odds in an anti-gravity breeze.

DJ Nobody has spun a ton of soft-psych and sunshine pop mixes at dublab and elsewhere over the years; this previously un-posted session from the summer of ’03 is one of his best, offering a masterclass in 1960s and ’70s vocal and orchestral arrangement. Featured are pioneering, heavyweight studio minds like Curt Boetcher and Brian Wilson, among others.

From the inspiring, post-lysergic bliss of bands like The Millennium and Blue Aquarius to rock gems by the bizarrely beautiful Wimple Witch and Klaatu, to lesser known classics by The Beach Boys and The Mamas & Papas, Nobody serves up O.G. psych like no other.
