Hovering somewhere in the space between hazy indie psychedelia and downbeat hip-hop, Koushik Ghosh was among the most unique producer/DJs on the early Stones Throw roster and had a knack for pairing curious, dreamy sounds with jazzy, dusty, head-nodding breaks. Later, he would focus more on instrumental beats, but on his first few releases he added distinctly phantasmagoric vocals to his productions that, in the right mindset, can easily be mistaken for samples from a past era.
In this mix from 2004, right before Stones Throw would release his first full-length LP, Koushik took dublab listeners on a trip through some of his own tracks, plus tons of great selections of vintage psych, soul jazz, funk, and hip-hop.
