On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum. This week Frosty explores the Nonesuch Explorer Series and more. He offers an expansion on the theme.
In the mid-1990s, I was working in a classical radio station in Los Angeles when my boss asked me to clear out a room and toss everything in the trash. What I discovered there changed my life. The tiny room was crammed with thousands of albums including a huge selection of the Nonesuch Explorer Series. Luckily, I offered to saved this wax from its nearly unfortunate fate and put the records to good use by sharing the sounds with friends and radio listeners. The Nonesuch Explorer Series in particular opened my ears to wider sounds of the world.
On this Celsius Drop episode, we’ll hear some of my favorite selections from the Explorer catalog covering a broad expanse of the globe including India, Tibet, Ghana, Bulgaria, the Dominican Republic, and beyond. That will be followed up by over an hour of music of an era-hopping, genre-blurring music of an equally expansive nature.
