Celsius Drop
07.02.20

On his weekly Celsius Drop show, dublab co-founder Frosty guides you through an exploration of the vast Future Roots music spectrum.
This time around, Frosty welcomes Aksak Maboul and Crammed Discs founder Marc Hollander onto the program. The influential Belgian band Aksak Maboul have recently released the double LP Figures, their first album album in decades. This stunning work continues the band’s trajectory into unexpected realms that satiate the desire for wide spectrum listening.
On this week’s Celsius Drop, Hollander spoke to Frosty about the band’s history, his sonic headspace, and shared “Roots of Aksak Maboul,” a deeply layered mix blending old favorites (from 1925 to 1980) with new tracks by Aksak Maboul and others. “Roots of Aksak Maboul” outlines some of the inspirations which have informed the aesthetics of the experimental pop band.

ABOUT AKSAK MABOUL:
Aksak Maboul was formed by Crammed label boss Marc Hollander and in 1977 and 1980 they released two albums (Onze danses pour combattre la migraine and Un peu de l’âme des bandits), whose recent vinyl reissues confirmed their status as avant-garde classics. Hollander recently formed a new incarnation of the band and Figures is their first new album in decades.
