In this episode, Gemma interviews Meriem Bennani, a multidisciplinary Moroccan artist based in New York. They speak about Bennani’s most recent installation, Guided Tour of A Spill at François Ghebaly, and the music that inspires her.
Meriem Bennani (b. 1988, Rabat, Morocco) earned an MFA at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and a BFA from Cooper Union in New York. Her video series 2 Lizards, produced in collaboration with Orian Barki, was recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art New York after being hailed as a preeminent document of life under quarantine. Bennani has presented recent solo exhibitions at the Kitchen, MoMA PS1, Fondation Louis Vuitton, and CLEARING. She was included in the 2019 Whitney Biennial, the 2018 Biennale of Moving Images, and the 2016 Shanghai Biennale. Her works are held in the public collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitey Museum of American Art, and the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
