That One Time
06.20.25

It’s Story Time! Welcome to a space where artists bring you on a journey through their world of music. Every episode, a different artist will share the songs they love and the things or people that have inspired them to play, make, and share music. That One Time is an open format show that gives listeners a chance to get to know these artists on a deeper level, learning the personal stories on what music they first fell in love with and how they got to where they are now. Everyone has a story to tell; so buckle up and get ready for the ride.
This month’s edition of That One Time is hosted by guest DJ, Ashley Younniä.
Ashley Younniä is a DJ, multi-disciplinary music curator, and cultural architect. Born in New Jersey, Ashley Younniä’s sonic storytelling is deeply rooted in the Black America tradition of house music. While based in Los Angeles, Ashley has made her distinct sound and undeniable presence known in the house and dance scene global by traveling to play in Tokyo, Mexico City, Australia, Korea and Europe. Her deeply soulful DJ sets are known to move her dance floors through the sounds of gospel, RnB, and electronic music as popularized by Black and Brown queer underground club culture.
The soundscapes Ashley has created both on and off the dance floor has led her to work with artists, cultural institutions, and brands that have included Kelela, Lion Babe, Hillman Grad, The Broad Art Museum, Miss Grass, and The Whitney Museum of American Art.
More recently, Ashley’s definitive sound and groove has soundtracked the growth of queer-led LA house music parties like Shaun Ross’ Stardust, TheyHouseLA, and her viral appearances on Black House Radio which launched the platform into a YouTube sensation as featured in the Los Angeles Times. Her own curation and party Feelin’ Feelin’ is set to be this year’s most anticipated house music offering of the year.
Experiencing one of Ashley Younniä’s sonic curations is like being dropped into a full length power ballad love song at a BPM that will invite your body into movement and deeper connection with yourself and the people around you. She plays to the nostalgia of old school house heads while bringing a fresh contemporary take to the genre that invites new audiences to fall in love with house music for the very first time.
