Voidwave

Voidwave is a web of experimental voices, sounds, and interviews with a focus on work by femme, gender non-conforming, and queer folx. Embedded in these sound practices are rebelliousness and longing, hunger for new subversive futures, irreverence, determined perseverance, political potency, uncompromising processes, and includes a celebration of lineages that spans across time and the globe. Voidwave is a 2-hour radio show that features work from artists who use experimental sound and music, performance, field recording, spoken word, sound art, sound poetics, and other disobedient audio speculations – adventures into sound and conversations with the people who made them.
This episode was created and hosted by visiting curators, Arantza Peña Popo, Daisy Green and co-producer and co-editor Katya Urban. Biography by Arantza Peña Popo and graphic by Melissa Vogley Woods.
This Voidwave episode features an explorative conversation facilitated by Katya Urban, Arantza Peña Popo and Daisy Green across states, talking to artist and musician, Larkin Grimm. They discuss making art under a capitalist system, navigating queerness, mutual aid practice, Kate Bush and Diamandà Galas, American identity, living in different cities across the world, parenting, routine and using art as an emotional outlet.
Larkin Grimm is an avant garde folk artist whose sweeping travels and encounters are imbued in their acoustic, mercurial compositions; you can hear in their music the faint imprint of Buddhist rituals and bodies bristling against leaves as they cut through the forest. Larkin was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Atlanta, GA in the New-Age anti-capitalist commune, The Holy Order of Mysterion Agape Nous Sophia with multicultural, artistic parents. Grimm came to music after studying sculpture at Yale University, and what followed is a body of work that feels mystical, mercurial, and grounded in curiosity — touring extensively across the United States and Europe with their band while recording and producing seven studio albums of original music: North Country, Harpoon, The Last Tree, Parplar, Moons of June, Soul Retrieval, and Chasing an Illusion.
Larkin Grimm is currently based in New York City, where they continue to make music and share their curiosity with the students they teach.
