RECENTS
01.05.26

Hosted by LUPE, RECENTS is the radio equivalent of a photo dump. A show that emerges out of all the deliberate piles of vinyl on the floor; the converted playlists from multiple streaming libraries; cassettes with no download code; FLACs ripped from the promo CDs; the browser tab groups; favorited tweets of just a YouTube link; the little unmute button on the Instagram slideshow clips; record label mailing lists that keep going to spam; and the new-used arrivals bin at the shop in the middle of nowhere that’s still somehow overpriced. RECENTS is an ode to, and embrace of, the randomness that comes from hoarding all genres and decades of music from every corner of the earth and mixing them together. And leaning into the fact that sometimes out of chaos, sequences form. Do Jan Jelinek and Janet Jackson go together, or were they just next to each other?
On RECENTS, expect to hear anything and everything, new and old, including guest DJ sets & live performances, and sometimes even compiling & discussing music that fits a theme (just to bring some order to it all).
This month Ms. Ed and Glo Phase join as guests.
Erika, aka Ms. Ed, is a rave cupcake. Into dancing and hot cues, no holds barred. Her influences start with video game soundtracks and a heavy dose of 90’s radio hip hop, rap, and RnB. After a brief K-pop phase, she got caught up in indie pop, rock, and folk music. Shortly after, the bloghaus era with its relentless remix culture would lead to electronic dance music. These references cultivated a lifelong affinity for jazz chords, soulful vocals, elusive beats, and raw emotion.
Glo Phase is the solo project of professional composer and multi-instrumentalist, Joseph Rusnak. Although Glo Phase is a relatively new project, Rusnak has been producing, performing, and touring in multiple bands and projects since the early 2000s. Under Glo Phase he has released a steady stream of genre bending electronic music through labels 100% Silk, Stasis Recordings, Whiskey Pickle, and Image Research, always emphasizing a balance between dreamy and dancey soundscapes. In addition to his releases, Rusnak regularly performs live sets with varieties of analog gear, spanning distinctive moods and colors.
