Matt McDermott works his way through a diaspora of musical discoveries, sometimes plaintive, often odd and usually shuffling their way to the outskirts of the dancefloor. He’ll often have friends dropping in to tell him what they’ve seen and more importantly, heard.

Interior Space w/Phork

HI – it’s Matt. Back in the studio so I guess the show should again be called En Plein Air. But you know what, I’m still interested in interiority and still feeling quiet and contemplative. With that in mind, this week’s guest is perfect. Phork is an incredible artist, DJ and confounding musical mind who has just moved back to LA after a stint in Detroit. He’s released on venerable labels like NNA Tapes, Opal Tapes & Noumenal Loom, and keeps up a flurry of activity via his Bandcamp and Soundcloud pages. He’s been doing a mix series on the latter as of late, it’s called idio.

Here’s Phork on the mix:
“It’s titled ‘idio_009″ ,the ninth entry in the mix series I’ve been doing since the beginning of the pandemic last year. The title of the series uses the prefix idio (own; private; personal) to signal its intention. This one is kind of my take on ‘contemporary furniture music’ (to borrow from Satie). File under ‘ambient’ i suppose. I found it’s especially good for reading, which I’ve been doing alot of recently. Hopefully you can find some time to do the same…kick back somewhere with the occasional cool breeze and let this mix fill up the room.”

Thanks to Phork. Listen to his mixes, buy his music. Read a book. Smile. Rest.
