Michael David’s performance focuses on the use of a multi-channel mixer as an instrument. Mixing boards are often reduced to tools that provide great utility in the studio but mixing can be creative and performative. Dub masters like King Tubby and Lee Perry really expanded the use of the mixing desk, wiring tape delays and spring reverbs as FX sends triggered live during the mixdown.

Before automation, there are famous stories of Pink Floyd choreographing intricate mix moves during the Darkside sessions. Each band member was assigned a channel and had to make magic in a live mix performance. The set Michael David has put together is just a subtle homage to the craft and a fun way to deconstruct and revisit his own material along with multitracks for well-known recordings that he was able to track down.
