Quietudes: Spoken Word

06.25.26

Quietudes is born out of the mutual appreciation for the gentle sounds from 1980’s ECM records, yacht rock, marimbas, and fourth world music, an easy folk-rock music soundtrack you hear while taking a drive after partying till the morning and wanting to watch the sun come up.

This edition of Quietudes follows the human voice as instrument, witness, confession, and companion.

Poems, monologues, meditations, and strange transmissions drift through memory, philosophy, protest, and dream. Beach towns and broken crystals. Automatic writing and global frequencies. Fireside teachings and voices caught somewhere between sleep and revelation.

From the weathered reflections of Rod McKuen and Atahualpa Yupanqui to the uncompromising poetry of Linton Kwesi Johnson, from Winston Tong’s theatrical meditations on mortality to Ram Dass inviting us simply to sit around the fire, these pieces inhabit that curious territory where language becomes music and music becomes thought.

Expect spoken fragments suspended in ambient landscapes, avant-garde recitations, accidental philosophies, and stories carried by voices both intimate and otherworldly. A gathering of poets, artists, wanderers, and ghosts passing notes across the airwaves.

Join George and Heavy Hymns for two hours of spoken worlds and quiet revelations.

Words are sounds too.
