Ramesh’s “Sharm-e Boos-e” comes from the incredible compilation Pomegranates compiled by Mahssa & Arash and available now on Finders Keepers. Here are some words from Mahssa about this heavy tune from Ramesh…

The discordant reality of eastern traditions complicated by the rampant confusions of modernity has become a norm in Persian dialogue past and present, not to mention revolution, exile, and diaspora. Like many other countries, the Sixties and Seventies were a time of tumult in Iran. Ramesh is one of the many fierce, femme singers on Pomegranates (a compilation of vintage Persian funk, folk, psych and pop) and her song Sharm-e Boos-e is among these obscurely excavated recordings of highly sexual musings, voluble love songs, simple folk tunes, and subtle voices of political protest. This elusive rocker has been spotted in 70s teen-zines in Iran decked in everything from paisley-pretty to biker-chic. A true trendsetter, her songs also ranged from ruminative spoken word, to the fervent and sorrowful… and this track, which sounds like a could-be Shocking Blue tune. Though we might never know who came first…..!
