dublab presents the Sounds of Now

At the third edition of Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours, dublab created a special mix of classical works for the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’s Light Lock corridor. As guests traveled through the corridor, they were accompanied by carefully chosen pieces of “furniture” music. Coined by French composer Erik Satie, this term was the first to describe early examples of what is now considered ambient music.

dublab’s own take on “furniture” music traverses many eras, weaving together decades in an exhibition of classical ambient music’s many roots and branches. Along with lighting inspired by James Turrell, this was the perfect soundtrack for passing between the Grand Stern Hall and the Founders Room.
