PELLYVISION is a monthly cohesion of sound and vision. Each episode features a musical performance and/or dj set from a different artist, which Alex Pelly visually accompanies by synthesizing live audio reactive video using a modular synthesizer and other analog technology.
Split Static is a resonant sensory surge, aural and optical impressions created by Alex Pelly (audio and video synthesizers) and Elaine Carey (guitar and electronics) in 2024. Friends and frequent collaborators for over a decade, the Los Angeles based duo worked together on numerous video and intermedia ventures, defining a shared aesthetic with their 2017 Coaxial Arts residency, an immersive and interactive audiovisual installation, titled Solid States.
Elaine Carey is a multimedia artist who explores sonic textures with musical instruments and analog electronics, from strings to synths to singing saw. Her versatility is not limited to any genre, giving way to collaborations with diverse and prominent artists of both traditional music and experimental disciplines. She has performed with international luminaries Xiu Xiu and Carla Bozulich, psych rock outfit Pink Mountaintops, the highly influential LAFMS, and multi-instrumentalist virtuosos Gregg Foreman and Laena Myers. Notable projects include electroacoustic noise duo Telecaves (with Juliette Amoroso), improv quartet Soto Voce (with Ryan Sawyer, Tara Jane O’Neil, and Wilder Zoby), and ongoing duos with Sarah Register (Talk Normal, Kim Gordon) and noise champion Carlos Giffoni (as Rogue Squares, since 2017).
Alex Pelly is a video and sound artist who utilizes multiple generations of video technology, both analog and digital, to create multi-sensory experiences centered on visceral colors, shapes and sounds in motion. In addition to her monthly audio-visual radio show PELLYISION on dublab, she has done extensive work in music visualization for an array of artists and events, including Telecaves, ESP, Terry Riley, Suzanne Ciani, William Basinski, Kid606, Byron Westbrook, Carlos Giffoni and as resident visualist for Perpetual Dawn and Perpetual Drone music series. Forging into sound work in 2020, Pelly has made numerous solo appearances under her own name, and also performed and recorded as OX, a duo with Oren Kolin. OX released “Jupiter”, an audio-visual EP, on Simballrec in 2022.
