Don Preston (b. 1932) has played and recorded with Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band, The Residents, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Elvin Jones, Charlie Haden, Paul Bley, Carla Bley, Meredith Monk, Yusef Lateef, Charles Lloyd, John Carter and many others. He was friends with legendary inventors Harry Partch and Robert Moog and played Moog synthesizers on the soundtrack for Apocalypse Now, among many other soundtracks and studio albums. A compilation of some of Don’s previously unreleased solo electronic work from the ’60s and ’70s was released by Sub Rosa in 2012.
