Canary Sound Werk

The story behind this recording goes like this…
Back in January of 2000, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist did a show called Brainfreeze at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. The concert consisted of them playing strictly 7″ records on multiple turntables. The result is an amazing, acrobatic mix of funk, soul, hip-hop and everything in between.

How we got our hands on this I can’t reveal (mainly because I forgot) but, it was given to me on a CDR that simply read “DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist – Slurp.” I was told it was recorded direct from the mixing board. As far as I know, this recording is not available anywhere else. The famous “Brainfreeze” version that was eventually released, was recorded live at a different show. The one we are playing for you has never been shared. So here it is…
