HOUR ONE: Sonic Philanthropy w/ DJ Non-Prophet
Spinning for the common good, DJ Non-Prophet (BBMT Board Chair Benjamin Dickow) presents a set as eclectic as Bob’s collection and as varied as the many hats everyone has to wear in a non-profit theater. Sprinkling in bits of autobiographical stories that connect to the songs, DJ weaves together 70’s pop and weird exotica, funk and show tunes and everything in between exploring the many facets of Bob’s brain as represented by his music. A strong thread of space-themed music runs through the record library and gets particular attention during the hour. Also, the DJ doesn’t speak for any higher power, but he will ask you to support the Theater.
About the DJ:
Ben Dickow, aka DJ Non-Prophet, serves as the Board Chair for the Bob Baker Marionette Theater and has been a fan since moving to LA over 20 years ago. His parents gave him a wide-ranging introduction to all sorts of music, but that barely prepared him for wading through Bob’s amazingly diverse record collection. Celebrating that motley music archive gives us a window into Bob’s brain and gets us a little closer to him. In the daytime, DJ Non-Profit is the president of the Columbia Memorial Space Center, and in the evening, he’s often performing with his beloved Captured Aural Phantasy Theater. Right brain and left brain come together for your listening pleasure. Oh, and hi! to his kids Lucy and Miles and to wife Laurel who are all fanatics for BBMT!
HOUR TWO: DJ Nana Smalls
A “Dear Abby” request show hosted by legendary radio host DJ Nana Small, a DJ who always knows just the song to ease the collective aching souls. Will it get better tomorrow? Who could know … well, Nana knows.
