Courtyard Film Screenings: Sci-Fi Under the Stars! Presented by the Philosophical Research Society in association with dublab.

Roger Corman’s BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS starring Richard Thomas and John Saxon

What better place to enjoy a bevy of robots, 3-eyed aliens, Mumu monsters and wonderfully cheezy lightsaber rip-off battles than in the courtyard of PRS under the beautiful Los Angeles sky?! Join us for our first-ever open air courtyard Summer screening series at PRS, featuring three delirious cosmic confections: STARCRASH (1978) starring Caroline Munro and Marjoe Gortner on 7/5, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980) produced by the late great Roger Corman on 8/2, and the surreal Croatian sci-fi / fantasy VISITORS FROM THE ARKANA GALAXY on 9/6 – all projected on the outside of the classic mid-century PRS Auditorium! Prior to the screenings, incredible dublab DJs will be spinning cosmic music in the courtyard, so come early to grab a spot and enjoy the sounds!

BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS

Jimmy T. Murakami & Roger Corman, USA, 1980, Shout! Factory / AGFA, 104 min.

With art direction by a young James Cameron, a score by future Cameron collaborator James Horner (ALIENS, TITANIC), a screenplay by John Sayles (LONE STAR) and co-directed by Roger Corman himself, BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS is a gem of the post-STAR WARS space boom in B-movie filmmaking.

Shad (Richard Thomas of “The Waltons” and SUMMER OF ’42) must scour the cosmos to recruit mercenaries from different planets and cultures to save his peaceful home planet from the evil Sador (John Saxon, BLOOD BEACH) Joining this magnificent band of marauders are the deadly Gelt (Robert Vaughn, SUPERMAN III), carefree Cowboy (George Peppard, “The A-Team”) and the Valkyrie Saint-Exmin (Sybil Danning, CHAINED HEAT.) – Film & synopsis courtesy of AGFA / American Genre Film Archive.
