A Century in Sound is an acclaimed documentary series that traces 100 years of Tokyo’s cultural history through ongaku kissa—Japanese music cafés devoted to deep, communal listening. As listening bars and vinyl culture proliferate across the U.S. and around the world, this film offers necessary context, revealing the philosophy, history, and lived culture behind these intentional sound spaces.

Featuring legendary, Grammy and Emmy award-winning, and locally-based pillars of deep listening who build community through sound. For fans of cultural practices across film, nightlife, and global music scenes.
