SLEEPLESS: THE MUSIC CENTER AFTER HOURS

Explore after hours – The Music Center invites all Angelenos to reimagine the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion as it comes alive late into the night with DJs, music performances, exhilarating video installations, enchanting activities, and sonic sculptures.

FEBRUARY 5:

PLAZA / LOBBY / BELOW STAIRS

The experience begins on the Plaza and makes its way into the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’s elegant marble lobby.

Kick it on The Music Center Plaza as LA-based DJ collective, Mas Exitos, brings the perfect blend of tropicalia, cumbia, psych, and Latin Breaks.
Pass by the gold-tiled reflection pool and treat your eyes and ears to a fully immersive video installation designed by yU+co.
Get crafty with artist Daniel Gonzalez of Self-Help Graphics and Art’s shadow puppet city-scape while making shadow versions of the busses, cars, trains, and streetlamps that make up metropolitan Los Angeles.
Travel below stairs and bask in a unique sound installation designed exclusively for Sleepless by London-based label Touch featuring multi-channel audio works from Touch sound artists, Chris Watson, Jana Winderen, Bethan Parkes, Hildur Gudnadottir, The Eternal Chord, Philip Jeck, Simon Scott, BNilsen & drøne.
3rd FLOOR – OVERLOOKING BALCONIES / 2nd FLOOR – THREE STORIES HIGH

Move freely up and down the Grand Staircase encountering the bronzed sculptures of Enzo Plazzotta along the way.

Lie down, look up, and enjoy DJ sets and curated large-scale projections while lounging on pillows, cushions, and bean bags, OR bring your own soft seating (no chairs please!). NEW LINE UP! Featuring Carlos Niño, M. Geddes Gengras, Ahnnu, Dakim and artists of Los Angeles’ own Leaving Records.
Travel through the Light Lock corridor as it is transformed by a DUBLAB produced soundtrack of “furniture music.” Considered as the origins of ambient music and coined by French composer Erik Satie, this soundtrack along with lighting inspired by the work of James Turrell will be the perfect passage between the Grand Stern Hall and the Founders Room.
Get up and get down under the disco ball and dance among the elegant 18th century design in the exclusive Founders Room featuring DJs and electronic musicians from the artist roster of ESP Institute.
