A visual explosion of iconic fashion and furniture design

Over the past year, and off the heels of the JF Chen x Christie’s auction sale celebrating the 40th
anniversary of the legendary Los Angeles antiques establishment, Bianca Chen – Joel Chen’s eldest daughter who is now at the head of the family business – has been working with Lynn Pickwell, a former costume designer, who works internationally as a consultant on the art of collecting, while shooting video content. Together they present Collision, an eclectic selection of curated ensembles from The Collective Code, a fashion collection conceived by Pickwell/Moore, paired with some of the most iconic design pieces from the JF Chen collection.

Throughout her career working on film and music projects with some of the world’s most celebrated actors, directors, and musicians – from Bob Dylan to Bruce Springsteen, and Whitney Houston to Sting, and The Cult, Pickwell moved through creative worlds in dynamic eras with her contemporaries, many who passed too young but who left an indelible mark. A fortuitous meeting with collector Bruce Moore, set the wheels in motion as they embarked on a journey to build The Collective Code. “We came together as ethnographic observers of the fusion of fashion, art, and design.” The collection holds over 200 pieces of 21st Century fashion, textile and accessories with a focus on geo-eclecticism, the Art-To-Wear movement and the zany avant-garde.

Collision marks the celebrated debut of this captivating collection, which remained private to this day, meticulously storing the pieces waiting for the right occasion to share with the world.

Collision opens Thursday, March 28, 2019 at at JF Chen’s contemporary gallery C Project and will be on view through the end of April.
