I just finished this mix of Belgian Popcorn Oldies. It was an interesting Belgian musical phenomenon similar to the better known Northern Soul scene in England. Check popcornoldies.tv for more details. In short it’s about a danceteria that started playing 50’s doo-wop and R’n’B Latin chachacha in the late 70’s. Belgian commuters went nuts about it and came from wide and far to dance to it on Sunday afternoons. Soon the record vultures/dj’s started going to the US to buy this stuff and payed prices as high as the Northern Soulies did. Many Belgian bootlegs were pressed as well. I just got into it by buying a collection of this stuff and I’ve had quite some fun with it and wanted to share. This is just a mix that isn’t even that broad in genres, an entire popcorn set would have more different flavours but you know, today was Sunday and things were quiet…. love, Gerd de Wilde
