Earlier this year, Six Organs of Admittance’s Ben Chasny put out a book laying out the Hexadic System, a compositional method he’s been developing for quite a while that was inspired by explorations in the thought of Ramon Llull, Gaston Bachelard, Heinrich Agrippa and many other theorists in the various schools of combinatorial and image theory.

In this special episode, Ben explains the development of the Hexadic System and discusses its use in his Hexadic I and (recently announced) Hexadic II albums. We’ll also hear from Phil Legard a senior lecturer with School of Film, Music and Performing Arts at Leeds Beckett University who has been using the Hexadic System to compose a number of piano pieces, and whose study has given him a particular insight into the Hexadic System’s place in the continuum of compositional methods.
