A 24-hour tour of the Los Angeles “beat scene” during the summer of 2013 is compressed into Looking for the Perfect Beat, a feature-length documentary directed by Matthew F. Smith. The film, produced by Daddy Kev, revolves around LA’s famous Low End Theory club night. Artists involved with the club open up their studios for us to take a special peek into. The Gaslamp Killer, Daedelus, TOKiMONSTA, Baths, Ras G, Teebs, Thundercat, Jonwayne, Matthewdavid, D-Styles, edIT of the Glitch Mob, Free the Robots, and Astronautica each invite us into their creative spaces. As the film rolls, the soundtrack comes to fruition through these artists. Witness the scene come alive in Looking for the Perfect Beat, an exciting, intimate tale told by LA’s homegrown artists themselves. Be sure to catch one of the screenings during the film’s limited theatrical run at the Downtown Independent Theater — every night from February 13 – 19th.
