Voidwave is a web of experimental voices, sounds, and interviews with a focus on work by femme, gender non-conforming, and queer folx. Embedded in these sound practices are rebelliousness and longing, hunger for new subversive futures, irreverence, determined perseverance, political potency, uncompromising processes, and includes a celebration of lineages that spans across time and the globe. Voidwave is a 2-hour radio show that features work from artists who use experimental sound and music, performance, field recording, spoken word, sound art, sound poetics, and other disobedient audio speculations – adventures into sound and conversations with the people who made them.

We were pleased to have a conversation with musician and composer Kai Kubota-Enright, who invited two friends and collaborators to join as co-guests (Hayley Koning-Bastiaan and Luis Lechuga-Espadas). Another collaborator, Theo Haber, joined for meta-edits of the show. The show was produced by Kim Zumpfe, alongside production support from Bo Kim who wrote this introduction. In these two hours, we move through layers of conversations, laughter, works composed by Kai, collaborations with Theo, and a live improvisational recording at Griffith Park by Kai, Hayley, and Luis.

We gathered at Griffith Park in a grassy clearing. Bordering us was the Autry Museum, flanked by The Singing Cowboy, a commercial cemetery, and the city-owned Travel Town, which houses now-silent trains which once shuttled Japanese American internees to concentration camps. A breeze blows through the trees enclosing us, and soon we begin.
